Crypto Vault AES-256-GCM for Android

Netyvo combines your own encryption keys with optional protection for Nora browser storage and Crypto Messenger for encrypted text. These tools help secure selected local data and messages on your Android device.

Manage encryption keys with Crypto Vault

Create and name AES-256 keys in your vault. Import, export, copy and deliberately share keys when necessary. Store your backups safely, and never disclose secret keys to an unauthorized person.

Encrypt Nora browser storage

Nora is Netyvo's built-in browser for Android phones and tablets. Its optional browser-data encryption uses AES-256-GCM. Enabling encryption or changing the active key triggers local re-encryption of stored data. Nora storage encryption is a Premium feature.

Crypto Messenger and Secret Pad

Encrypt and decrypt text using a vault key or a key derived from a password. Copy or share the encrypted result; AES-GCM authentication helps detect changes to the ciphertext. Crypto Messenger works in Free as well as Premium.

What is included?

  • AES-256-GCM encryption key creation and management.
  • Optional encryption for data stored by the Nora browser.
  • Text encryption and decryption with Crypto Messenger.
  • Control over exported keys and local backups.

Understand the protection scope

Crypto Vault does not automatically encrypt every app or your entire phone. Protection applies to the specific Netyvo features you enable. Losing an encryption key or password can prevent access to your encrypted data.

Is Crypto Messenger available in Free?

Yes. Text encryption with Crypto Messenger is available in Free and Premium. Optional stored Nora browser-data encryption is a Premium feature.

Tutorial: create and back up an AES-256-GCM key

Example: you want a separate encryption key for private messages and a way to keep reading them after replacing your phone. These instructions follow the actual Netyvo controls.

  1. Open Crypto Vault and select the “Keys” tab.
  2. Tap “New Key”, enter a recognizable name such as “Private notes”, and optionally set a key password. Confirm. Netyvo generates a random 256-bit AES key.
  3. The key backup dialog appears. Choose “Save to file (.key)” or deliberately copy the token beginning with “VAULT-KEY:v1:”.
  4. Store the key file or token securely. To restore on another device, choose “Import Key” and select the .key file or paste the token. Test with non-sensitive data before deleting the original.

Example: encrypt and decrypt a message

Crypto Messenger is available in Free as well as Premium. Use a vault key or a custom password. Your recipient needs the corresponding key or the exact same password.

  1. In Crypto Vault open “Messenger” and choose “Encrypt Message”.
  2. Select an existing vault key or “Enter custom password / one-time key”. Enter a test note before using sensitive information.
  3. Tap “Encrypt Message (AES-256 GCM)”. Copy the generated encrypted message block and send that block to your recipient.
  4. To read it, choose “Decrypt Message”, paste the encrypted block and select the matching key or enter the identical password. Tap the decrypt button.
  5. If you use a vault key, the recipient must have a safely transferred copy. Do not post the secret key or password alongside the encrypted message.

How to encrypt Nora browser data (Premium)

  1. First create a vault key and store a safe backup using the “Keys” tab.
  2. Open the “Nora Browser” tab. In Premium, enable “Enable Nora Database Encryption on disk” and select the key for Nora's stored data.
  3. Choose “Apply encryption & migrate data”. Before changing keys or deleting an old key, keep its backup and verify that your stored browser data remains accessible.
  4. Separately, you can enable “Require fingerprint / PIN when launching Nora Browser” and save that setting. The biometric lock is available without Premium.

Security and recovery essentials

A VAULT-KEY token contains actual secret key material. Anyone who obtains it may be able to decrypt data protected with that key. An optional key password does not replace careful handling of exported key tokens. Nora encryption covers selected browser data, not all Android apps or the operating system. Losing your only key backup may make encrypted data unrecoverable.

Availability: vault keys, Crypto Messenger and Nora's biometric lock — Free and Premium; stored Nora data encryption — Premium.

How do you encrypt a message with AES-256-GCM on Android?

In Crypto Messenger, select a Crypto Vault key or enter your own password, then encrypt the text. The recipient can decrypt it with the matching key or identical password; do not expose the secret alongside the encrypted message.
